MARTIN OMALLEY IN THE POLLS
TJ Gosse

According to the polling data on realclearpolitics.com, Martin O’Malley is currently at a RCP Average of 1.5. In comparison, leading candidate of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, is at a 57 and Joe Biden is next, clocking in at 13.5. Warren, Sanders, and Webb are also leading O'Malley This is based off of data collected from 1/18 to 2/22. This average is from CNN/Opinion research, Fox News, Gravis Marketing, Rasmussen Reports, ABC News/Washington Post, and the Public Policy Polling (PPP). At the moment, this is a very accurate depiction of the story of this presidential race. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are the big names, so naturally more people will flock to their campaigns. On the other hand, underdogs and newcomers like Martin O’Malley, Cuomo, and Webb need to find a way to make a name for themselves and separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

In order to get a better grip on the polls, O’Malley needs to win over the Democrats that are still unsure of who they are going to vote for if the Democratic primaries were today. According to one poll, this is still 18 percent of the party. The same poll says that 52 percent of these people would vote for Hillary Clinton.

Earlier this week, an article from politico.com said that there was “No love for Martin O’Malley in Iowa”. It is clear that Hillary leads all of the polls by a wide margin. Unfortunately for O’Malley, he received zero votes in the Iowa poll. He also had poor outings in New Hampshire and With this statistic, I think O’Malley and his campaign need to take a step back and re-evaluate the message that they are trying to send to the conservative voters.

Currently, there is a poll on MSNBC asking people whether or not they would support Martin O’Malley if he ran for president in 2016. Out of the nearly 2,700 people that were surveyed, 26 percent said yes, 35 percent said no, and 39 percent said that they do not know enough about him yet.
